Product Safety

  • Our infant products undergo extensive quality and safety checks throughout the manufacturing process—from raw materials to finished product.

Each batch of our products is assured to meet our high quality and safety standards as verified by our proprietary Quality Systems that exist in every manufacturing facility. We distribute our products only if they pass our strict testing. We track the path of every ingredient in our infant and toddler products from its initial supplier through all processing stages until it reaches our consumer.

In addition, every product has a unique batch code that our consumers can easily identify and read. Should the need arise, our highly trained employees can use the unique batch codes to confirm the safety of our products.

  • Enfamil conducts over 2,200 quality checks on every batch of formula to ensure top quality for your little one. Each batch is tested for micro-organisms and follows FDA protocols.

We monitor every ingredient in our infant and toddler products—from its initial supplier and through all processing stages until it reaches your little one.

  • Our testing approach includes an early warning system for indicators of organisms such as botulinum, and it has been part of our standard protocol for years. We also conduct routine spore testing to ensure the quality and safety of our finished powdered products.

  • Yes. We employ stringent testing protocols across all ingredients and finished products for heavy metals including mercury, cadmium, aluminum, lead, and arsenic.

We are proud of our efforts to date to reduce the levels of unintended materials in our products, which meet all safety and quality standards set by U.S. and global regulatory bodies, including the rigorous EU regulatory limits for heavy metals.

  • BPA is not used in the making of any of our formulas, drinks, medical foods, or the containers for these products.

Mead Johnson Nutrition only uses packaging components that are certified BPA-free.

  • Heavy metals and PFAS are not ingredients in infant formula, nor are they added to any infant formula formulation.

  • Mead Johnson Nutrition formulas are in compliance with all FDA regulations.

At Enfamil, we are dedicated to giving the millions of babies and toddlers that rely on our formulas the best start in life.

The majority of the Enfamil products tested by Consumer Reports* were ranked as “Top Choices,” which accurately reflects our commitment to providing the highest quality and safety in infant formula that parents and pediatricians have trusted for 120 years.

We value the trust parents and caregivers put in our formulas and that’s why Mead Johnson Nutrition ensures our products not only meet, but exceed requirements set by the U.S. FDA and other international regulatory bodies. Our stringent quality and safety protocols start with testing ingredients and only end when our infant formulas leave our hands.

All Mead Johnson Nutrition products tested are fully compliant with safety and quality regulations, including formulas rated lower like Nutramigen or Puramino. We regularly test these products and hundreds of tests contradict the findings of this singular report. We encourage parents and caregivers to speak to their pediatrician, if they have any questions.
